How to Include Your Pet in Holiday Traditions
Dec 15, 2023 - Antelopepets

The holiday season is all about special moments with the ones you love the most — and that includes our pets! If you’ve been searching for ways to include your pet in some of the most beloved holiday traditions, we’ve got you covered.

Take a photo with Santa

Nothing screams holiday cheer quite like a photo with Santa Claus. Believe it or not, there are tons of pet-friendly Santas out there who are more than happy to take a photo with your dog. In fact, many local pet shops will partner with Santa around this time of year for photo ops. If you aren’t sure where your closest local pet store is, check out our store locator. And don’t forget to do your research either. Calling ahead or checking the store’s social media pages are a good way to see if they do any events for the holidays.

Make an ornament together

For a memory that will last forever, try making a custom ornament using your pet’s paw print. We like this kit, which has extra customization options that add an even more personal touch to your ornament. There are also plenty of shops both online and locally that will customize ornaments of your entire family, dogs and cats included! Having a new ornament made or making one yourself every year is a great way to celebrate the season.

Enjoy a holiday dinner

Including your pet in your holiday dinner is actually easier than you think. Classic holiday staples like turkey, cranberries, pumpkin, and green beans are all able to be enjoyed by your dog — just make sure they’re prepared properly and aren’t seasoned or cooked in oil or butter.

If you want to give your pet something of their own to eat, consider checking out My Perfect Pet. Offering gently-cooked bars specifically formulated for your dog or cat, My Perfect Pet is a great way to not only include your pet in the holiday feasting, but to also introduce them to a fresh, gently-cooked diet. A win-win if you ask us!

Get an advent calendar

Advent calendars are the gift that continue giving throughout the month of December and believe it or not, there are tons of pet-friendly advent calendars out there. One of our favorites is Bocce’s 12 Day Advent Calendar. And if you happen to have a Costco membership, Bocce’s also has a special edition advent calendar that you can find there.

Volunteer together

Visiting hospitals and nursing homes during the holiday season is a great way to not only spread some extra holiday cheer, but to also give back to your community. We only recommend bringing your animal to a hospital or nursing home if they’re well-trained (and bonus points if they have therapy dog training!). Make sure you reach out to the facilities prior to bringing your pup there, as not every place is dog-friendly.

Hold a gift exchange

For a fun night that you and your pup can participate in, get together with your fellow pet parents and swap gifts. You can pair your gift exchange with a fun holiday dinner and even make fun alcohol-free puptails for your dogs. The possibilities are endless!
